Once I became fluent, I realized that, for example, in a business negotiation, I could say the harshest things with no problem whatsoever, while it would have been much more difficult, or sometimes impossible, in French. And I always wondered why.
Years later a linguist lady told me that it is a well known phenomenon among psychologists: That is because your your birth language remains your language of EMOTIONS forever. Other languages are just tools of (emotionless?) expression. Which is why when i get into a difficult argument, business or otherwise, i always choose English, where I can say absolutely anything I want…
